Corps Members Kevin Pedersen & Kulap Vilaysack happily pulled weeds and laid mulch last Friday at St. Mary’s Garden in Koreatown. This is the first growing season of a former vacant lot/eyesore that will soon fill the pantry of Project Angel Food with fresh produce.

Garden maintenance is happening every Friday, 10am - 11:15am.  PAF provides water, knee pads, gloves and tools.  Come on down, get dirty and watch the garden transform.

The Project Angel Food mission is to nourish the body and spirit of men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Project Angel Food delivers free meals prepared with love.  From our kitchen, Project Angel Food cooks and delivers free and nutritious meals prepared with love.  We act out of a sense of urgency because hunger and illness do not wait.

I had so much fun attacking, hacking & pulling weeds.  It was cathartic, messy & satisfying, and if you know me you know that’s what I’m about.  Plus it was cool to catch up with Kevin Pedersen.  Kevin, by the way, was pulled into mulch duty and stayed past noon because he’s a warrior.

The site supervisor told me that the lot used to be a condemned apartment, then a vacant lot with weeds waist high, filled with tossed garbage.

I’m looking forward to witnessing its growth.
